October 2019 Commentary: ChallengesSubmitted by MidWestOne Investment Services on October 30th, 2019
I’m…. dreaming….. of a white…… Halloween?!?! Two to three inches of snow fell on us in Eastern Iowa early in the week with more expected and even colder temperatures for the Halloween night festivities. I had done a pretty good job of getting away from commenting (i.e. complaining) about the weather, but this is a little ridiculous. If I heard my statistics correctly, the first measurable snow in October since 1997. Yuck!
On to more pleasant topics, the equity markets hit new all-time highs this week. The potential for trade deals and a looming Fed rate cut made the markets a happier place. While the equity markets are jostled around by political intrigue, there is still a fairly positive backdrop with earnings. It’s rarely a smooth, straight up ride, and that’s where our financial plan comes into play.
Speaking of your financial plan, we are wrapping up our tip of the day in October feature on our Facebook page. A couple of recent ones that I find useful are on reviewing your beneficiaries and paying for college. Check out all 31 tips at https://www.facebook.com/mwois/.
