March 2019 Commentary: Goals and TimeSubmitted by MidWestOne Investment Services on March 20th, 2019
Changing things up a bit and instead of the weather, we will take a chapter from the book, “How Time Flies”. This past weekend, we were in Des Moines for my younger daughter’s last Iowa Region volleyball tournament. And this weekend, we head to Indianapolis, where her team will try to qualify for Nationals at the end of April. Either way, her club volleyball career has one or two events left. Ellie and I have spent a ton of car time together through the last six years and I wouldn’t trade that time for anything. I hope she would say the same thing and even more, I hope that volleyball has been a (mostly) fun classroom for her to learn many life skills that she will use over the next 80 years or so.
Back to business, I am sharing Bob Doll’s latest weekly commentary with you. He hits you with what his team views as positives and negatives, and how those views shape their outlook. Easy read, but as usual, very informative.
LPL Financial is rolling out a cool new tool to help us serve you better. Many of you have been through our financial planning exercise and know it produces great reports but it does require some homework on your part. The new Client Goals tool will allow us to do a simpler version to save you some time but will allow you to begin the important planning process. One of the overlooked aspects of planning is most of us have more goals to fund than we have resources. How do we fund retirement, college educations, mortgage payments, and club volleyball? By thinking proactively about our goals, we are able to prioritize them and direct our resources to achieve our goals efficiently. Having a clear picture of your goals is equally important as performance of your investments, because that clear picture allows us to use appropriate investments and take risk you are comfortable with. Don’t be surprised if you hear us talking more about the goals based approach and please be sure to ask us next time you speak with us.
Thank you very much for your support!!
