Here we are, end of August, Labor Day weekend, first college football games. I mention this nearly as much as the weather (which has been fantastic in Iowa), but time truly does fly. Speaking of flying, last time I mentioned my daughter going to Hong Kong for the semester. She left Monday and her flight was nearly 16 hours from Chicago. Long way to go with a middle seat! And while she was flying there, our man Jim Magrane was flying back from Taiwan after traveling with the University of Iowa baseball team. Check out the video for some sightseeing highlights. Jim shows up at about the 2:00 mark.
Much like Memorial Day, I did a little research to understand the history of Labor Day. Individual municipalities passed ordinances in the middle 1880’s. Those gave rise to a movement for state legislation, with the first states observing the day in the later 1880’s. Finally in 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September a legal holiday. The day is dedicated to the achievements of the American workers and is a tribute to their contributions made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
I won’t completely ignore the usual information. Attached you will find the latest Market Commentary from LPL Research. Using their Corporate Beige Book Barometer, they break down corporate sentiment by analyzing earnings conference call transcripts. A pretty impressive adventure! Here is the link to it on our website also:
I will let you off the hook this week and not give you another detailed paragraph about planning. But if we can provide any type of resource for you, please be sure to let us know. Thank you very much for allowing us to be involved in your financial picture!!
