Final FourSubmitted by MidWestOne Investment Services on March 29th, 2018
Old Man Winter proved to be awfully stubborn this weekend when 8”-10” of snow was dumped on Iowa City. It was a wet and heavy snow that shovels and snow blowers both disliked. With warmer temperatures this week and some rain, nearly all the snow is gone. Until the next blast!
Because the NCAA Final Four is this weekend, I attached the latest LPL Research Market commentary in which they discuss the “Final Four Factors”. Those are the factors they feel are most likely to move the economy and markets in 2018, along with how they see the factors playing out. I liked it because it is a quick, simple read.
The first week of February gave us our first blast of downward volatility and our first 10% correction in nearly two years. The market rebounded through most of February and held steady into early March. Recently, with a looming tariff war causing uncertainty, the markets have stumbled again. As you will read in the attachment, this doesn’t have to become a long-term problem, so massive plan overhauls aren’t necessary. I bring it up to give you a little heads up that you might see a negative statement through the first quarter of 2018. It has been a while since we have seen something like that, and I am hoping to get you mentally prepared
