Fall Markets and PlanningSubmitted by MidWestOne Investment Services on November 1st, 2018
Fall has certainly taken a turn to the milder side in recent days. In Iowa City, trick or treaters enjoyed a fantastic night to gather their required sugar intake. Here’s hoping we have three or four more months of this before we move into Spring!
Two links for you today. The first is from Oppenheimer and discusses the market correction we endured in October and why it might not be all bad news. The second is from DWS, and it discusses one of the drivers of the recent volatility, the upcoming midterm elections (cue the scary music). I found both articles to be easy to read and informative.
Corrections are a common thing in the financial markets. That doesn’t mean when you open your statement and see that the balance has declined that you are going to be excited or in no way anxious. This latest round of market volatility serves as an important reminder about the importance of having a financial plan. When the markets get whacked as quickly as they did this time, emotion becomes the lead force in our decision making. Emotional decision making rarely leads to good outcomes, so having a strong plan reminds you that you have a map to help guide you to where you are going, even if the market tries to give you a flat tire or throws up detours. We are always willing to help review your plan, so please let us know how we can best serve you.
Thank you very much for allowing us into your financial lives!!
